A diaphragm is a semi-flexible material and is most often a round shape serving as a barrier between two separate chambers, moving slightly up or down depending on pressure applied.
Diaphragm seals are a flexible membrane that isolates and seals an enclosure. The flexibility of the seal allows pressure to cross the barriers but none of the material being contained.
A common use for a diaphragm seal is to protect sensors from fluids whose pressure is constantly measured. Fuel system pressure regulators applied in automotive applications use diaphragms in their design.
Diaphragm seals must be highly flexible, therefore elastomers are frequently used.
These elastomers are chemically compatible with the various plastics and rubbers applied.
